  • Since August 2026 more than 100 research companies can also back researchers through the UKRI route.
  • Through the Global Talent Taskforce and a £54 million fund, the government is trying to attract top talent.
  • Your partner and children can come with you and work freely.

HPI after the November 2025 expansion

  • Since 4 November 2025 the list covers the global top 100 universities in any of the three rankings.
  • A cap of 8,000 visas a year (1 November to 31 October).
  • Funds of £1,270 are required.
  • HPI is a good chance to find work and then switch to the Skilled Worker visa.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a job offer for Global Talent?

Which universities qualify for HPI?

Universities ranked in the top 100 of the QS, THE or ARWU rankings in the year you graduated.

Does HPI lead to settlement?

No. HPI cannot be extended, and for settlement you must switch to another visa such as Skilled Worker.
