Greece's general family reunification rule is that the resident must have at least 2 years of legal residence. But the families of golden visa, financial independence (FIP), digital nomad and Blue Card holders are exempt from this wait and can get residence at the same time as the main applicant.
Who has to wait?
| Resident's permit | Family joining |
|---|---|
| Golden visa | At the same time; includes both spouses' parents and children under 21 |
| Financial independence (FIP) and digital nomad | At the same time, with a higher income requirement |
| Blue Card | At the same time, with work rights for the spouse |
| Other permits (ordinary employment, etc.) | After 2 years of legal residence |
General reunification requirements
- 2 years of the resident's legal residence (for non-exempt routes)
- Adequate housing for the family
- Stable and sufficient income, increased for each family member
- Health insurance for every member
- Eligible members: spouse or registered partner and unmarried children under 18; parents only on some routes such as the golden visa
Plan from the start
If you are moving with family, choosing a route that accepts the family at the same time (golden visa, FIP, digital nomad or Blue Card) removes any period apart. Compare Greek residency routes
