Almost every Greek residency route starts with an AFM (tax number) and a Greek bank account. After arrival, the residence application is filed, biometrics are taken and the card is issued. Since 2026 files are automatically assigned to the immigration office with the shortest queue.
Before and after arrival
- AFM: through myAADE with video identification (myAADElive), or via a representative or lawyer in Greece.
- Bank account: with your AFM, passport and proof of address; required for the golden visa.
- Residence application: filed online or through a lawyer, then biometrics; the legal decision deadline is 90 days after the file is complete.
- AMKA: your social security number for work and public healthcare, after residence or starting work.
- Renewal: possible up to 3 months after expiry, but with a €100 fine per month of delay; apply on time.
