Most Iranians stay in Türkiye on a short-term residence permit (Kısa Dönem İkamet). The most reliable type is property residence, with a residential property of at least $200,000. First-time tourist permits are often refused nowadays. The closed-neighbourhood limit has been lifted in practice since about June 2026, though no official notice has been published.
Types of residence

Property residence: key points
- Since 16 October 2023 the minimum property value is $200,000 in every province (purchases before that date keep the earlier threshold).
- The property must be residential, with its value confirmed by a licensed (SPK) appraisal report.
- The owner must live in the property.
- Spouse and children under 18 can get residence too.
Closed neighbourhoods
From June 2022, neighbourhoods where the foreign population passed a set share were closed to new residence registrations (more than a thousand neighbourhoods in Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya and other cities). Since about June 2026 migration offices have accepted applications from these neighbourhoods too, but the Presidency of Migration Management has not published an official notice. Check the current position before renting or buying.
