Applying for a Spanish visa from Iran, Türkiye or Georgia: where and how?

You apply for a Spanish national visa (non-lucrative, digital nomad, work, study and family) at the Spanish embassy or consulate in your country of nationality or legal residence, in the consular district where you live. In Iran and Türkiye applications are filed through BLS centres.

From Iran

• Applications for the Spanish embassy in Tehran are normally filed through BLS.
• The embassy closed on 7 March 2026 because of the military strikes on Iran, and its reopening was announced in April 2026; check the current status of visa services before you plan.

From Türkiye

• Spain has an embassy in Ankara and a Consulate General in Istanbul; national visas are filed in person at the BLS centres in both cities.
• Iranians living in Türkiye with a valid residence permit and proof of living in the consular district can apply here, which is often more practical than Tehran.

From Georgia

• Spain has no resident embassy with visa services in Georgia; the Spanish embassy in Ankara covers Georgia.
• Residents of Georgia usually apply for national visas through the Ankara embassy; confirm the current procedure with the embassy or with us first.

Tips for a clean application

1. Prepare all foreign documents with sworn translations (traductor jurado) and the required legalisation (apostille or embassy legalisation).
2. Take out health insurance as the consulate expects (comprehensive, no co-payments).
3. Show means for the whole permit period (€28,800 for the first year of non-lucrative residence).
4. The visa decision deadline is 1 month; also allow for the BLS appointment wait.
