US visa interviews for Iranian, Turkish and Georgian nationals: where?

Since September 2025 (nonimmigrant visas) and November 2025 (immigrant visas), US visa interviews must take place in your country of nationality or residence. The era of booking an appointment anywhere is over.

Nationals and residents of Türkiye

• Embassy Ankara: immigrant and nonimmigrant visas.
• Consulate Istanbul: nonimmigrant visas (visitor, student, work, E-2).
• The Adana consulate has been closed since March 2026.
• Visitor appointment waits range from a few weeks to several months.

Nationals and residents of Georgia

• Embassy Tbilisi handles nonimmigrant and immigrant visas (including K-1 and the lottery) for Georgia and Azerbaijan.
• Georgian nationals may need a $5,000–15,000 bond for visitor visas.
• Iranians living in Georgia on an Iranian passport are covered by the travel ban.

Iranian nationals

• The US has no embassy in Iran. The designated post for Iranians' nonimmigrant visas has been Dubai, and for immigrant visas Abu Dhabi and Ankara.
• The UAE posts closed or were limited after the February 2026 war, and their immigrant visa services remain suspended.
• More important than the interview location: since 1 January 2026 no visas are issued on Iranian passports except for narrow exceptions. Details

Interview tips

1. Complete the DS-160 accurately and consistently with your documents.
2. For student and work visas, make your social media public.
3. The $250 "visa integrity fee" may be collected when the visa is issued.
